Jasmine Gutbrod is an artist, designer, and educator researching the ecological intersections of nature and culture. At Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) she received her bachelor’s degree in Furniture Design and Nature-Culture Sustainability studies, and her master’s in Art and Design Education. Through physical object-making she studies natural life processes, often blurring the borders between inside and outside spaces. She sees art and design as valuable tools for community building and empowerment, and innovative education as a pathway for those tools.
Select residencies include Friday Harbor Marine Laboratory, Shoals Marine Laboratory and Flathead Lake Biological Research Station. She is a SPUR Research Grant recipient and a former Maharam STEAM fellow. Teaching positions include undergraduate courses in the RISD Furniture Design Department as well as the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, MA. Her studio is based in Providence, Rhode Island.
